Shellys Biscuits
Ingredients
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening. (plus more for greasing) | 5 to 7 cups of self rising flour. | 1 cup whole buttermilk.

Directions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and Grease baking sheet with vegetable shortening. Set aside.
Place 5 cups of flour into a large mixing bowl, and make a well in the center. Pour buttermilk in the well. Using your fingers, cut the shortening in the buttermilk. Gradually work the flour on the sides of the well into the buttermilk mixture, gently stirring in one direction until a ball of dough forms adding more flour as necessary. Clean the dough from your fingers. Knead the dough by gently turning it over in the bowl. With floured hands, pinch off about 1/3 cup of dough to make a ball. Pat the ball to slightly flatten it. Transfer it to the baking sheet, and pat the top of the biscuit lightly with water. Repeat these steps with the remaining dough. Bake until well browned, about 14 to 16 minutes.
Yield: 9 Biscuits.
